Warbrats
Warbrats
Memories of an Air Force Brat stationed at Westover, Massachusetts , Bentwaters, UK and March Air Force base in California during the Cold War and Vietnam War.
Stores and visions shared by Robert’s grandfather’s of the Second World War.
These oil stick and grease stick paintings are a visual exploration of the stories passed down to me by my grandfather, who served in World War II. Inspired by the black and white newsreels and documentary series “The World at War,” I seek to capture the essence of those historical accounts through this work.

The paintings in this series are rendered solely in black and white, representing the stark reality of war and the timeless images immortalized in those news reels I watched as a kid as reruns on weekends. Through a combination of realism and impressionism, the tangible details of World War II aircraft and emotional impact.
Titles such as “What Tommy Saw” and “What Charlie Saw” serve as personal tributes to my grandfathers.
Through this series, I aim to invite viewers to reflect on the historical significance of World War II and the lasting effects it had on individuals and societies. By capturing the spirit of these aircraft, I hope to transport viewers back in time, allowing them to imagine the sights, sounds, and emotions that accompanied the war.
In essence, my oil stick and grease stick paintings are a testament to the human stories and historical narratives that deserve to be remembered. Through this work, I strive to honor the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who lived through that era, while also preserving and sharing the legacies of my grandfathers.
